The Triangulum Galaxy (M33) is a spiral galaxy about 2.7 million light-years away, the third-largest member of our Local Group after Andromeda and the Milky Way. Seen almost face-on, it is dotted with pink regions where new stars are being born.
About 60,000 light-years across, M33 is roughly half the size of the Milky Way. Its brightest star-forming region, NGC 604, is among the largest known in the Local Group. The galaxy is visible to the naked eye from very dark skies, a remarkable sight for an object so far away.
