The Soul Nebula (IC 1848) is a vast star-forming region about 7,000 light-years away in Cassiopeia. Its clouds of gas are sculpted by the radiation and winds of young, massive stars, and it sits beside its neighbour, the Heart Nebula.
Also called the Embryo Nebula, it belongs to a region of Cassiopeia rich in star formation and forms a well-known pair with the Heart Nebula. At its centre, a cluster of young stars carves cavities into the gas and dust, while deeper in the cloud new stars are still forming.
