The Cygnus Wall is the brightest region of the North America Nebula (NGC 7000), about 2,600 light-years away in Cygnus. Along this dense edge of gas and dust, young stars are forming and lighting their surroundings.

Along the Wall, radiation from young stars strikes the dense gas and ionises it, which is why this edge shines so much more brightly than the rest of the nebula. Dark dust lanes weave through the glowing hydrogen, giving the region a rugged, sculpted look.
